The Fly Bins are stocked wtih durable, productive, beautifully tied flies

CHUCK'S ORIGINAL FLY PATTERNS

Over the years I’ve come up with some flies that I believe in – flies that produce when they should, and out-produce other patterns of their type.

Many of these flies are now available for the first time in commercial quantities, thanks to Doug Brutocao of Doug’s Bugs, Santa Rosa, CA. Doug bought the former Frontier Flies, shut the Mexico operation down, and now has his flies produced in the finest fly factory in the world, in Chaing Mai, Thailand. I’m grateful that he believed enough in my flies to take them on, and I’m proud to have a role in the operation.

These flies are beautifully and durably tied – whether they come from the factory or the vises set up in the shop. I am on constant quality control alert. I work closely with Gary Borger to assure that the factory’s production standard are exactingly high.

Chuck’s Sculpin – Freestone The Sculpin series out produces all other Sculpins I’ve fished. These flies started as a simple solution to Sculpin design and have outstripped my expectations.

Chuck’s Sculpin – Weedbed This one is a light olive version of the above fly. Deadly around weedbeds on the Missouri and Henry’s Fork

Chuck’s Sculpin – Moss Dark olive version of the Sculpin. Use any place a dark olive Sculpin is called for.

4, 6, 8

$3.50

Chuck’s Sculpin – Deepwater Dark brown version of the Sculpin.

4, 6, 8

$3.50

Chuck’s Golden Stone This fly is designed to ride with the abdomen stuck in the water, while the sparse wing and oversized hackle give the silhouette of beating wings, It is deadly wherever Goldens are found.

8, 10

$2.50

Light Caddis Variant My all-time favorite, most productive fly. Does exceptionally well for early season limnephiledae, the doubles for little yellow stones. Dances on the water and invites strikes. A good searcher pattern any time. Equally effective on flat or rough water.

12, 14

$2.50

Tan Caddis Variant Possibly the most versatile caddis-matching member of the Caddis Variant family. This fly works just about anywhere, any part of the season. I cleaned up with a #14 Tan CV one evening last season on the Madison.

12, 14, 16

$2.50

Grannom Caddis Variant This one does exceptionally well when the green-bodied caddisflies are on the water late in the day. Clip the bottom hackles at the water line and you have a spent caddis.

14, 16

$2.50

Dark Caddis Variant The best Mother’s Day caddis pattern. Period.

16, 18

$2.50

Chuck’s Peacock Trude This is the first fly in my Trude series. Hollow hair underbody, full hackle collar that matches the light pattern thrown by peacock for more lifelike appearance, sparse, flared wing that doesn’t obscure the body. A great daylight searcher, especially when terrestrials are around.

10, 12, 14

$2.50

Hookup Green Drake This fly rides with the hook up, and presents a believable silhouette to hard-fished, picky trout in flat water. Can be moved along the surface with the same disturbance as a natural – often the bets way to trigger strikes.

10

$2.50

Hookup Damsel Similar design to above. Simple in appearance, gets the job done where fancier patterns foul, twist the leader, or simply fail to catch fish. Fly can be moved along surface. A Georgetown Lake favorite.

10, 12, 14

$2.50

Yellow Trude This little fly performs well when Little Yellow Stones are on the water, or as an attractor pattern. Hint: Trim the hackles, top and bottom, and thin the wing out to about half for evening sessions when egg-laying stones are on the water.

14, 16

$2.50

Amber Trude This fly has caused quite a stir locally. Good as a searcher, or when any number of small, tannish bugs are on the water. The spectrum of colors in this fly is an application of Gary LaFontaine’s theory of attraction.

12, 14

$2.50

Brindle ‘Chute A multicolored mix of dubbing and hackle that mimics light patterns trout see on the water. Use for many similar-colored hatches. Or, fish it as a searching pattern – it produces when nothing else works.

10, 12, 14, 16

$2.50
