A few years back, I invited a guide client to join me on a relaxed, informal fishing trip. At the end of the day, as we broke down our rods, he remarked that he learned more by watching me, that day, than he had on all the days he had paid me to guide him.

At first I was taken aback, then I understood: my most valuable learning experiences as an angler came that same way.

Over the years, I’ve fished regularly with some master anglers. Some are famous; others, outside of their own circles, remain unknown. I watched them, copied them, and listened as they explained what they were doing. Each one enjoyed the role of mentor. I soaked in all I could.

That’s what "A Day With Chuck" is about.

This is a unique sort of a fishing trip – a time to visit some of my favorite water as I show you things I’ve learned from my mentors or discovered on my own.

We’ll plan each day together with your wishes in mind. You’re invited to fish out of my fly box, and try my personal rods. If you’re a tyer, we can spend part of the day tying flies. I’ll bring the camera and sketchpad. I’ll do all I can to enrich your appreciation and skill as an angler, and give you an experience that will live in your memory.
